We are now living in a climate-altered world, highlighted by wildfires, droughts and floods. Each of these scenarios is an emergency situation. What can be done?

A just transition away from fossil fuels is needed for Canada. Our federal government must pass meaningful legislation addressing the interconnected climate, social and economic crises in our country. A Just Transition Act would offer solutions to the climate crisis by strengthening the economy and mobilizing for change. And now many countries realize that Russia holds them as fuel hostages, and are talking about moving away from fossil fuel energy as a necessary change.

This Saturday, March 12, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Nelson/West Kootenay chapter of the Council of Canadians invites you to visit their table on the 400 block of Baker Street (across from the CIBC) in Nelson to sign a parliamentary petition calling for a just transition.

We need parliament to pass bold legislation that accelerates the transition to 100 per cent renewable energy while creating millions of good, green jobs. Already, a number of MPs are supporting just transition legislation.

Join other communities nationwide on this day of action and show up!
