After paying taxes to operate a postal service, and paying again every time we use the service, the post office is running a large deficit.
So what does it do?
1. It plans to layoff 8,000 postal workers as if the deficit is their fault.
2. Stop home delivery. Those who are physically unable to walk to the community postal boxes, well, that’s their tough luck.
3. Make us pay more to use the service we already paid for.
What they should do is take a very close look at those people who have mismanaged, the postal service.
Why not get rid of a lot of those managers, assistant managers and assistants to the assistant managers who are earning a very comfortable salary sitting behind their desks?
Already two-thirds of the country does not have door-to-door service and the postal service’s debt has increased.
Why do they expect it to be different by stopping door-to-door delivery to the other one-third of its customers?
The cuts always start at the bottom, affect the honest hard working employees and hurt the public. It’s about time the cuts started at the top.
