I am asking for community support for our most vulnerable citizens who have no choice but to “live” at the homeless encampment on Government Road in Nelson.
I am asking those citizens who have chosen to harass and endanger our most vulnerable — by throwing live fire crackers, bear bangers, lit flares, as well as screeching your tires (I’ve seen your tracks) and yelling horrible inhumane insults — to stop!
Instead, drop by to offer assistance and you will meet very kind, caring, respectful and some of the most gracious and grateful people I have ever had the pleasure of encountering. It can take just one unfortunate situation to become unhoused. But, it takes years to return to a stable life with housing. These vulnerable citizens are not “lazy drug addicts.” They are people without the social, financial and family supports that many of us have had that launched us to be successful. Our most vulnerable live very complicated and desperate lives. They need our help, not harassment. Call your local, provincial and federal governments.
