On the east side of Ward Street a few yards down from Baker, I witnessed an elderly gentleman trip over a broken piece of sidewalk. He went down real hard on his knees, elbows and face. It was a dramatic fall. Luckily, the fellow was agile enough to break his fall so he was not hopefully badly injured. He walked away in shock.

This dangerous bit of sidewalk has been presenting a hazard for at least a year. There was no real effort to reduce the inch and half or two inches of jagged cement that jettisons out. A bit of asphalt to prevent tripping and spray paint to warn of the irregular surface would have likely prevented this fall.

There has been a half-hearted effort that may have actually made the broken sidewalk worse. Loose pieces of cement were left in front of the booby trap. I am at a loss to understand.

What will it take to do this cheap simple repair?
