Missing public plazas

Public plazas provide a living room for the community and a focal point for small cultural events.

I was on Baker street Friday night to take in the opening festivities for ArtWalk.

I kept thinking about the various cities in South America and Europe, where such an evening was a daily part of the culture. Public plazas provide a living room for the community and a focal point for small cultural events. Nelson doesn’t have a public plaza; but it does have places that could serve that purpose. Is there local opposition to the concept? Like so many things, until you try it you don’t know if you like it. It would be interesting to find out what the public thinks about this.

Perhaps the Nelson Star could run a poll and get some feedback.
