Stop shaving the bus schedule

BC Transit is proposing to Nelson city council that changes be made to the bus routes. One route currently on the chopping block is in the Rosemont area, from West Richards Street through to and including Selkirk College.

The bus stop on West Richards is located directly across the street from a senior citizens complex, Cedar Grove.  For many in this neighborhood public transit is their only mode of transportation. Taking away this bus stop will greatly impact the residents of Cedar Grove and Rosemont area locals, but especially during inclement weather when safe, reliable transport is needed most.

Another route BC Transit has proposed to eliminate is the bus stop located at the mall, right outside of Save-On-Foods. This is a popular bus stop for obvious reasons, and eliminating this stop means shopping at Save-On-Foods would be impossible without access to private transportation.

Why, when more and more cities around the world are increasing their bus services to reduce automobile use, would Nelson cut back?

Therefore, I am asking Nelson city council to put a halt to these proposed changes; that council take into consideration the negative impact these changes would have on the residents of Rosemont and Nelson in general.

In order to express our upset over these proposed changes, and in an attempt to have our voice heard by city council, a petition is being circulated in and around Nelson.

If you would like to add your voice in support of your local citizens and friends and neighbors, please feel free to visit the Advocacy Center (521 Vernon Street) or John Ward Café, bulletin board in back (the café is located on Baker Street across from bus transfer station).
