The lessons hockey teaches are vital

Although my partner and her best friend may have found the “Hockey violence too much” letter (February 22) hysterically comical, I found it not.

Although my partner and her best friend may have found the “Hockey violence too much” letter (February 22) hysterically comical, I found it not. Judging from the sophistication of his words, I would bet that this De la Falcons fellow most probably spent most his life at some ivy league university, and shied away from ever playing any sports at all.

My brothers and I were raised on hockey, and like most contact sports we were subjected to some brutal incidents. Nonetheless, that made us men. It made us the people we are.

A child must not be hidden from the dangers this world offers. Becoming disciplined to be a man is an important requirement in growing up to be manly. What if the child had to go to war to fight terrorists, or has to defend himself and his family from a burglar?

I am tired of the complaints I am constantly hearing from people who cannot see the big picture.
