The Kootenay Music Awards Are Back

Artists and fans alike will begin submitting there favourites from the past year or so in February via Kootenay Coop Radio.

The Kootenay Music Awards are returning this year after a raucous event last year at The Royal.

Title sponsor The Nelson Brewing Company has come on board and Black Press has partnered with KMA founder Chad Hansen to ensure the awards not only continue but flourish in the years to come.

Artists and fans alike will begin submitting there favourites from the past year or so in February via Kootenay Coop Radio. We will then via a panel of five judges short list that to the nominees. From that point it becomes an online voting competition for a month with the winners being announced May 10 at Spiritbar.

Last years online buzz lead to artists seeing between 500-2500 listens on their Soundcloud accounts. A lot of people listening to new, locally produced music from right here in the Kootenays, meaning great exposure for the artists and new music for fans.

The goal of the night isn’t so much to pick winners, but to celebrate the entire community that adds so much to our quality of life here in the Kootenays. A night to celebrate the fan in all of us.

With the help of Black Press we will see coverage from Fernie to Nelson and expose up and coming and established artists alike to new audience’s everywear!
