Whitewater Ski Resort is offering some programs perfect for spring break. The avalanche skills training course runs March 18 to 20 and is recognized by the Canadian Avalanche Association. It is highly recommended for those interested in backcountry travel.

Whitewater Ski Resort is offering some programs perfect for spring break. The avalanche skills training course runs March 18 to 20 and is recognized by the Canadian Avalanche Association. It is highly recommended for those interested in backcountry travel.

Minimum age is 16 and avalanche and/or backcountry knowledge is a prerequisite.

Sign up at the guest services desk on the mountain, or at the downtown office. Cost is $185.

There are various lessons offered daily as well. It is not too late to learn for this season! In Ski and Snowboard Step One you’ll be shown the correct way to dress, put on your gear, ride the handle tow, and control your speed, stop and turn. Price includes full day lift ticket, rentals and two hour lesson. Offered daily at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. for $68.

Group lessons for ages six and up are available for skiers and snowboarders levels one to six.

Two-hour lessons are set to pick up new skills, improve style and technique in a fun group oriented environment. Cost is $48

Private lessons for ages four and up for skiers and snowboarders level one to six provide the pros undivided attention to a tailor made lesson. Ski at your pace and, more importantly, learn at your pace. All private lessons may include up to three people of your choice. So bring a friend, split the cost and have a great time! Offered daily at 9 and 10 a.m., 12, 1 and 2 p.m. For costs and booking please call the Whitewater office.

 

Spring break programs are happening at the Nelson and District Community Compex. While most camps are full, there are family public skate and kids’ recreational hockey times open to all. Check rdck.bc.ca/nelson for schedule and costs.

A reminder for the early birds, the pool is open to swimmers 6 to 9:30 a.m. Monday to Friday. A great way to start the day!

In the meantime, get ready for NDCC online registrations for the spring an summer programs. The leisure guide will be available in the April 8 issue of the Nelson Star and at rdck.bc.ca April 5.

Online registration opens April 14 and offers the choice for participants to either register directly from home or continue with front desk registration.
