Anklewich scores, Nelson Leafs edge Nitehawks 3-2

It was Nelson’s first win of the season against Beaver Valley

Bennett Anklewich scored the game-winning goal as the Leafs edged the Beaver Valley Nitehawks 3-2 on Tuesday in Nelson.

Joe Davidson and Ryan Quast also scored for the Leafs (11-7-1), who moved within two points of Beaver Valley for the division lead. Dylan Marshall stopped 13 shots for the win.

It’s the first time the Leafs have beat their rivals in four games this season.

Hayden Stocks and Cooper Ross replied for the Nitehawks (12-7-1), while goaltender Owen Albers was forced to make 41 saves.

The Nitehawks were without head coach Terry Jones on the bench. He’s been suspended for eight games after the KIJHL found two players on the Beaver Valley roster were competing despite not being fully vaccinated.
