Balfour Golf Course hosted a field of 72 women from nine different golf clubs in the annual West Kootenay Challenge on Sept. 7.

Eight women from each course joined together in team format to represent and compete for low gross and low net.

While it was a beautiful day on a well-groomed course among a camaraderie of players, it was also a day for saying goodbye to Balfour’s never-to-be-forgotten team member Mary-Anne Gaschnitz with her recent passing on Sept. 3. This proved a definite inspiration that spurred the Balfour team.

The Balfour Golf Club of Roma Crispin, Cathy Leugner, Jackie Little, Jennifer Green, Bernie McMullin, Joan Fiedler, Annette McClelland and Shelly Bumanis were the low gross team winners.

The Kokanee Springs Golf Club’s Roxy Stevenson, Sharon McDonald, Sharon Bannister, Bente Birkkjaer, Lynne Cranna, Nancy Cathers, Anne Olthof, and Jan Nutting meanwhile took the low net prize.

Congratulations and well done everyone! Thank you to all the volunteers and sponsors who helped make the event so special: Balfour Superette, Balfour Golf Club, Adventure Hotel, Kubera Payments, Lucas Hart Financial Services and Bernie McMullin.
