A Balfour team defended its home greens by winning the Boyd Haddad Team Competition on Sept. 8 for the first time in the event’s 81-year history.

The annual tournament sees eight golf courses within the Kootenay region sending two eight-man teams, one competing for the Boyd Trophy, which is determined by four two-man team best ball gross scores, and the Haddad Trophy, which is determined by four two-man team net best ball scores.

The team from Balfour competing for the Boyd trophy took top spot on Saturday by only one stroke over the teams from Granite Pointe and Birchbank golf clubs.

The Boyd Trophy champions from Balfour were represented by the four two-man teams of Reg Clarkson and Derek Diener, Craig Wilkinson and Dave Stevens, Greg Mufford and Doug Knight and Keith Mufford and Luke Dickieson.

On the Haddad side of the event, top spot this year went to the team from the Cranbrook Golf Club who won by two shots over the team from the Granite Pointe Golf Club.

The Balfour team will look to defend its title in September 2019 when the event will be held at the Kimberley Golf Course.
