Bombers continue learning curve

The L.V. Rogers Bombers baseball team continued its busy spring schedule in Grand Forks last weekend finishing with a 1-2 record.

Playing with a depleted roster due to hockey and Festival Nelson commitments, the Bombers opened the high school tournament with a 9-3 loss to host Grand Forks.

Connor Bojey took the loss, giving up all nine runs, with only one run earned.

Bojey gave up two hits, walked three and struck out three. Eric Madore also chipped in on the mound, getting the last three outs.

The team’s five hits came from five different players including Mateo Pipe picking up his first hit of the season.

The second game of the weekend saw the Bombers fall 14-4 to Kimberley.

Cole Laughton started the game on the mound with Madore and John Barabonoff coming in for relief.

The Bombers struggled on defence, committing 10 errors in the game.

The team’s only four hits came from Pipe, Branden Huffty, Chris Mahe, and Clay Rickaby.

The Bombers got on the winning side of the ledger in their last game of the weekend, getting revenge on Kimberley with an 11-10 win.

Daine Olenek started the game with Barabonoff  coming in for relief in the third inning and ended up picking up the win, giving up four runs on one hit, three walks and two strikeouts.

Barabonoff and Bojey led the hit parade with a double and single each.

The tournament was intended to give the Bombers four games, but one of the contests had to be cancelled.

The Bombers return home on Tuesday for a game against Grand Forks that starts at noon.
