Sol Butler made a statement in his first international freeride event.

Butler, who skis for the Whitewater freeride team, finished second at the Freeride Junior World Championships in Grandvalira, Andorra, on Saturday.

He finished his run with a 360 in poor visibility to secure a place on the podium with 1,020 points, just behind gold-medal winning American Ross Tester's 1,300 points.

Butler's Whitewater teammate Sam Howard also competed, finishing 20th out of 31 competitors.

The pair were just two of four athletes invited to represent Canada in the men's ski event.
