The Nelson Pee Wee Reps lost a heartbreaker to Castlegar on Monday afternoon, eliminating the locals from a chance at the tier III provincials.
After losing to Castlegar 6-3 in the opening game of the first-to-four-points West Kootenay final on Sunday, Nelson needed a win or a tie to stay alive.
The two teams battled back-and-forth throughout the entire game and with a minute left it looked like the locals were going to force a third game with the the contest tied 3-3. Then with 20 seconds left in the period, Castlegar converted to make the score 4-3. The visitors hung on for the win and the West Kootenay bragging rights.
Castlegar now advances to the BC Hockey Tier III Provincials in Creston next month.
