Two former teams that once included Amanda Asay on their rosters played a charity game at the Nelson and District Community Complex on Sunday.

The Nelson Blueliners and Red Wings met to raise money for a scholarship in Asay’s name. Asay, who worked in forestry and was a veteran of Canada’s women’s baseball team, died Jan. 7 after an accident at Whitewater Ski Resort.

The game raised approximately $2,300, according to an organizer.

The City of Nelson and Areas E and F of the Regional District of Central Kootenay contributed to the cost of ice time, while Nelson Brewing Company sponsored the event.
