The City of Nelson will kick in $10,000 worth of labour from its public works crews for an “accessibility renovation” to the curling club building.

The Curling Club picked up more than $70,000 in grant money from Human Resources and Skills Development Canada, which will allow it to put in wheelchair ramps, a stair lift, automatic door openers and other features. But the club told the city the project wasn’t funded in full and it still needs about $20,000 to complete the work, though fundraising will                   cover some of that.

City council has also offered the club a low-interest loan for the balance of funding, but denied a request by the club to waive development fees for the construction.
