The Nelson Youth Sailing Association is hosting their grand opening and open house June 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Lakeside Park. Adults and children are welcome to visit and see the newly purchased Opti boats, speak with organizers about upcoming sailing events and have their children go for a sail with another youth sailor. The Nelson Rowing Club is hosting an open house July 1, so include a visit through the boathouse and a free rowing try out between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. when at the park for Canada Day celebrations. For summer-long programs such as the Learn to Row sessions please call coaches at 250-505-0255 or email register@nelsonrowing.ca.

If you’re more inclined toward motor boat sports check out Captain Erik’s (250-551-5502) for boat rentals and Wake Up ‘n’ Ride (250-354-9556) for private wakeboarding lessons. Both are docked at the Prestige Lakeside marina.

Kootenay Basketball is preparing to take a boys team (aged 15 to 18) to Spokane’s Fire and Fall Back tournament July 14 to 16. Registration is open to all players in and outside our region and costs $125. Deadline is June 25. Practices are at L.V. Rogers July 4, 6, 7, 11, 12 and 13. Europe Elite Soccer Academy is returning to Nelson again July 25 to run its weeklong fun, skilled soccer camp. Half day and full day programs are available for all levels of youth six years and up. See nelsonsports.ca or call 250-352-3989 for more.

Last but not least, a reminder that the Nelson Regional Sports Council AGM is on June 21 at 6 p.m. at the Chamber of Commerce meeting room.
