Great weekend for Nordic Ski crew

P1000367
Members of the Nelson Nordic Club take a break at last weekend's Kimberley Kootenay Cup.

This past weekend 13 kids and eight adults from the Nelson Nordic Club competed in the Kimberley Kootenay Cup. Way to go Nelson... what a turnout.

We can’t quite say how many medals were won. Most were eaten shortly after their presentation — decorated cookies. There was wonderful team spirit and enthusiasm and everyone cheered everyone on.

Young racers ages five to 16 participated and the youngest category, the atoms, were joined by a ghostbuster and a panda bear on the race course.

Between races kids skied downhill style through a huge pipe and over a jump on the other side, or had snowball fights. So much fun.

No one starved either as there were many volunteers constantly churning out soup, chili, cookies, and delicious cake. Also, Deb Thompson rented the Nordic Cabin for a Nelsonite potluck. The spread was fabulous and there was even a wee bit of fiddle, violin, guitar and clarinet.

Congratulations to all the racers who represented Nelson. And thank you to all the volunteers, the Kimberley Nordic Club, the coaches, and the parent cheering squads who made it all possible!
