The Nelson Leafs opted to forfeit their final regular season game to give the roster an extra day of rest.

Nelson had just 11 players available for Sunday's game on the road against the Grand Forks Border Bruins, one short of the minimum needed for a game-day lineup. The Leafs won't be fined by the KIJHL since they gave sufficient notice, but they will be asked to cover any costs Grand Forks incurred such as ice rental fees or loss of advertising.

Leafs head coach Mario DiBella has said he expects a healthy lineup for Game 1 of the playoffs when Nelson visits the Beaver Valley Nitehawks on Tuesday.

The result means Nelson finishes the season fourth in the Neil Murdoch Division at 20-30-2.
