Larochelle stops 46 as Nelson Leafs beat Castlegar 5-4

It’s the first win for new coach Briar McNaney

Frederick Larochelle made 46 saves as the Nelson Leafs held on to beat the Rebels in Castlegar 5-4 on Friday.

The Rebels outshot the Leafs 50-30 but Larochelle kept Nelson in the game with a sterling performance.

Lucas Byrne scored twice for Nelson (18-13-5) while Carsyn Crawford, Owen McFarlane and Kingsley Brockett added singles.

Jace Kramer put a scare into the Leafs with two goals for the Rebels (9-25-3) late in the third period. Ravnoor Randhawa and Jacob Moldenhauer also scored for Castlegar, while Ethan Lawczynski made 25 saves.

The game was Briar McNaney’s first win as head coach of the Leafs, who next host the North Okanagan Knights on Saturday.
