Leafs drop games in Revelstoke, Sicamous

The Nelson Leafs dropped the first two of a three-game road trip in Revelstoke and Sicamous.

In a rematch of last season’s KIJHL championship final, the Leafs lost 5-4 in Revelstoke to the Grizzlies on Friday.

Nelson’s Joe Davidson forced overtime with a tying goal in the final two minutes of the third period before Revelstoke’s Colton McLeod scored the winner 1:54 into the extra period.

Leighton Partington scored twice for the Leafs, while Ryan Quast added single.

Carter Bettenson had two goals for the undefeated Grizzlies (5-0-0), with Jake Wallace and Liam Fitzgerald adding a goal apiece.

Nelson’s Jasper Tait stopped 44-of-49 shots, while at the other end of the ice Revelstoke’s Jozef Kuchaslo made 23 saves.

The next night in Sicamous, the Leafs (3-2-1) were run off the ice in a 5-1 loss to the Eagles.

Dawson Davis had Nelson’s lone goal. Frederick Larochelle was pulled from the Leafs’ net after allowing three goals on 11 shots. Tait took over and gave up two more while facing 29 shots.

Aiden Kalen and Nate Bentham each had two goals for the Eagles (3-3-0), with Reid Tofteland also scoring and goalie Damon Cunningham stopping 25 shots.

The Leafs end their road trip Tuesday in Castlegar. Nelson returns home Saturday against the Beaver Valley Nitehawks.
