Leafs fall 5-4 in shootout against Rebels

The Nelson Leafs finished winless on a three-game road trip after falling 5-4 to the Castlegar Rebels in a shootout Tuesday.

Joe Davidson, Bennett Anklewich and Tristan Magis each failed to beat Castlegar goaltender Ethan Lawczynski on penalties, while Jacob Moldenhauer’s goal on Leafs netminder Frederick Larochelle proved to be the winner.

Davidson, Lucas Byrne, Dawson Davis and Owen McFarlane each scored in regulation for the Leafs (3-2-2), while Larochelle made 21 saves at the game in Castlegar.

Daytn Kulynych, Evan Calder, Jace Kramer and Evan MacDonald had goals for the Rebels (4-3-0), with MacDonald forcing extra time with a goal in the final minute of regulation. Lawczynski finished with 34 saves.

The Leafs will try to snap a four-game losing streak at home Saturday against the Beaver Valley Nitehawks.
