Leafs lose 7-6 to Border Bruins in OT

The Nelson Leafs gave up a three-goal lead only to lose 7-6 in overtime Tuesday on the road against the Grand Forks Border Bruins.

Tyson Tokarz scored for Grand Forks in OT after two power-play goals by Cody Laybolt and Jonah Smith helped the Border Bruins rally back in the third period.

Laybolt and Smith each had two goals in the game, while Spencer Horning and Reid Schechtel also scored for the Border Bruins (5-3-1).

Grand Forks goaltender Mason Gatz allowed four goals on 21 shots before being pulled in the second period. Ethan Shebansky came on and made 25 saves.

Ryan Quast had two goals for the Leafs (4-2-3), while Reid Vulcano, Owen McFarlane, Tristan Magis and Johnny Carmichael added singles. Jasper Tait allowed all seven goals on 35 shots.

Nelson next hosts the Castlegar Rebels on Friday.
