The Nelson Leafs allowed five unanswered goals en route to an 8-6 loss at home Wednesday against the Grand Forks Border Bruins.

Nelson led 4-2 after the first period before the visitors rallied. The Leafs then scored two goals in the final two minutes of the game, but a goal by Grand Forks’ Ray Warrack with six seconds left put the win out of Nelson’s reach.

Parker White and Xaiden Bignell each scored twice for the Leafs (6-10-1), while Kane Kennedy and Aidan Turner added singles. Crae Dawson meanwhile chipped in with five assists.

Jackson McLeod was pulled from Nelson’s net after allowing three goals on five shots in the first period. He was replaced by Frederick Larochelle, who gave up four goals on 16 shots.

Matthew Dovichak made 38 saves in net for the Border Bruins (10-5-3). Jace Koole scored two goals, with singles coming from Warrack, Keanan Pearman, Luke Nottveit, Nate Tillmanns, Chad Bates and Carter Skarbon.

The Leafs next visit the Castlegar Rebels on Saturday, then return home Nov. 24 for a rematch against the Border Bruins.
