The Nelson Leafs are down early in the Kootenay Conference finals.
Bryden Pow had Nelson’s lone goal in a 2-1 loss to the Dynamiters in Kimberley on Tuesday.
The Leafs came out firing in Game 1, outshooting the Dynamiters 13-7 in the first period, but were limited to just 11 shots over the next two periods.
Austin Daniels scored a short-handed goal to give Kimberley the lead in the second, which was followed by Pow’s goal two minutes later.
Cash Regan then scored Kimberley’s go-ahead goal on the power play in the third period.
Nelson goaltender Tenzin Mint made 22 saves, while at the other end of the ice Trystan Self stopped 23 shots.
Game 2 is Wednesday in Kimberley. The series moves to Nelson for Games 3 and 4 on Friday and Saturday. A Game 5, if necessary, would be played Monday in Kimberley.
Meanwhile in the Okanagan-Shuswap Conference finals, the Revelstoke Grizzlies won Game 1 with a 5-1 rout of the Coyotes in Osoyoos.
