Leafs split games against Nitehawks, Rebels

The Nelson Leafs were edged in a shootout against Beaver Valley before earning a win against Castlegar the following night.

On Friday, Leafs goaltender Frederick Larochelle starred with a 46-save performance but Nelson fell 3-2 in a shootout to the Nitehawks.

Roan Crowe and Beau Manegre each beat Larochelle in the shootout while only Ty Nykyforuk had a goal for Nelson.

In regulation, Seamus Boyd and Kieran Christianson scored for Nelson (13-12-2) while Joel Smyth and Ollie Clement had goals for the Nitehawks (19-8-1). Beaver Valley goalie Landan Uzeloc finished with 21 saves.

The next night the Leafs scored three unanswered goals to beat the Rebels 5-3 in front of a home crowd of 1,220.

Crae Dawson scored twice and Jackson MacIntosh, Christianson, and Nykyforuk added singles. Larochelle returned to net with a 29-save performance.

Owen Latendresse, Joshua Gamble and Nate Jackman replied for the Rebels (16-10-3), with Ethan Lawczynski allowing all five goals on 30 shots.

The Leafs next host the Nitehawks on Sunday in their annual New Years’ Eve matinee. Puck drops at 1 p.m.
