The Nelson Leafs stormed the East Kootenay to win three games in three nights.
The Leafs edged Dynamiters in Kimberley 3-2 on Friday, beat the Ghostriders 5-3 in Fernie on Saturday and completed the road trip by clobbering the Creston Valley Thunder Cats 10-5 on Sunday.
In Kimberley, Frederick Larochelle made 42 saves as Nelson (13-3-3) overcome a 2-0 deficit in the first period. Bennett Anklewich, Marko Pavlovic and Joe Davidson scored three unanswered goals en route to the win.
Kasey Miller and Cam Reid had goals for Kimberley (13-5-2), with Trystan Self stopping 32 shots.
The next night, Davidson took over in the third with a natural hat trick against Fernie.
Lucas Byrne and Johnny Carmichael also scored for Nelson, with Larochelle turning aside 28 shots.
Fernie blew a 2-0 lead after goals from Ethan MacDuff and Jack Karpyshyn. Andrew Karam added a single for the Ghostriders (8-8-4) in the third period, with goalie Rodney Hanson allowing all five goals on just 17 shots.
The road trip ended with a blowout in Creston that featured a 10-goal second period.
Ryan Quast and Tristan Magis each scored twice for the Leafs, with Owen McFarlane, Hunter Sperle, Carsyn Crawford, Anklewich, Davidson and Byrne adding singles. Carmichael also chipped in with three assists.
Jasper Tait got the start in net for Nelson and made 30 saves.
Luke Chakrabarti had two goals and two assists for the Thunder Cats (8-11-2), with Stavros Koutsantonis also scoring two. Blake Anderson added one goal and three assists.
Jacob Burnside was pulled from Creston’s net after allowing four goals on 17 shots. Parker Forrest didn’t fare any better by giving up six more goals on 18 shots.
The Leafs are now on a six-game winning streak and have only lost once in their last 10 games. They trail the Grand Forks Border Bruins by one point atop the Neil Murdoch Division, but Nelson also has three games in hand.
Nelson next hosts the Kelowna Chiefs on Saturday.
