The L.V. Rogers senior girls volleyball team kicked off their season with a 32-team tournament in Kamloops at Thompson Rivers University last weekend, placing third in the tier-two bronze final.

The girls lost to Mount Boucherie Secondary from Kelowna in the round robin two straight but then bounced back to beat Westsyde Secondary from Kamloops two straight. The Bombers then split with Duchess Park from Prince George (ranked fifth in the province), ending up third in their pool.

On Saturday they defeated KSS “B” two straight in the quarter-final and then had a tough loss to Little Flower Academy (ranked seventh) from Vancouver in the semifinal after being up by 10 points in the second game.

Fulton from Vernon was supposed to play us in the bronze game but they were a no show and ended up forfeiting the game.

The Bombers next play at the Mount Sentinel Invitational this weekend against teams from Fernie, Kimberley, Castlegar and the host team.

Games start at 3:30 p.m. Friday and the finals are at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.

The squad is then off to Kelowna for two weekends in a row at UBCO and then at Kelowna Secondary School for Best of the West.

LVR is going into the season ranked sixth in the province for AAA high schools, which is the highest ranking to date with nine returning players (five Grade 12s and four Grade 11s).

Provincials are in Dawson Creek in late November but LVR will need to beat J.L. Crowe on Nov. 15 in Trail to qualify.

In the meantime the team have been busy fundraising for flights and tournament fees and will run a men’s and women’s open six-vs-six tournament at LVR on Oct. 22. Please contact LVR or head coach Staci Proctor for more info.
