L.V. Rogers’ senior boys and girls track and field squad captured the combined team championship at the Kootenay zone regionals May 22 in Cranbrook.
LVR scored 164 points to beat Cranbrook’s Mount Baker (159), followed by Golden (98) and Fernie (90).
The girls and boys 4x400-metre relay teams each won gold, while several athletes won individual events.
Ruby Nay took gold in the girls 1,500 and 3,000 races. Aleah Smith won the 800 and Maya Abraham finished first in 100 hurdles and javelin.
On the boys side, Mitchell Erickson was the winner in both 1,500 and 3,000 races. Ibex Kelly topped the 200, while Cade McCarthy won the 800.
Trafalgar’s Dawson Abraham also competed with the team. He won the junior boys 800, 1,500 and 3,000 races.
The team will next travel to Nanaimo on June 6-8 to compete at the provincial high school championships.
