The West Kootenay Minor Hockey house league regular season schedule wrapped up over the weekend and now playoffs loom for players in atom, pee wee, bantam and midget.

In the atom division (ages 9-10) Nelson teams finished in the middle of the pack. The Nelson Chiefs came away with the best regular season record at 8-6-1 which was good enough for seventh overall in the 16-team league. The Nelson Warriors were hot on their heels with a 7-6-2 record and are seeded eighth in the league. The Nelson Millionaires posted a 5-9-1 record which left them in tenth spot.

Atom playoffs are slated for the March 4-6 weekend. The Chiefs and Warriors will compete for the Atom I West Kootenay banner in Trail and the Millionaires will be going for the Atom II banner in Nakusp.

In the pee wee house division (ages 11-12) it was the Nelson Penguins who proved to be the best of the three local teams finishing second overall in the 11-team league with an 11-1-2 record. The Nelson Spartans wrapped up the final weekend with three games and finished tied for fourth in the league with a 9-4-1 record. With a 3-10-1 record, the Nelson Golden Leafs will be seeded eighth heading into post season action. Pee wee playoffs begin this Friday in Castlegar.

Both of Nelson’s bantam house teams (ages 13-14) enjoyed solid regular seasons finishing second and third in the 10-team West Kootenay league. Nelson 1 concluded the season with a 9-4-0 record while Nelson 2 was 8-5-0. The bantam house playoffs will be hosted by Nelson on the March 4-6 weekend.

In midget house (ages 15-18) the lone Nelson team finished the season on a roll, jumping up to fourth place in the eight-team league. After a tough start, the Nelson midgets rallied for a 6-8-0 regular season record. The midget playoffs are this weekend in Trail.
