Local athletes returned home with six medals from the B.C. Winter Games last weekend in Vernon.
Bonnington Falls cross-country skier Aleah Smith captured gold in individual sprint (2008 girls), bronze in the 4x2-kilometre mixed relay and also finished fifth in the 3.5-km interval start.
Paige Purcell of Bonnington won gold alpine skiing by finishing first in the dual slalom team mixed event. Purcell was also 25th in female slalom and 38th in giant slalom. Purcell was also one of 16 athletes to receive a $1,000 bursary.
Nelson gymnasts also earned three medals.
Molly Anderson won gold in women’s beam, Jersey Skolka took bronze in women’s floor, and Analise Van Hellemond finished third in a different women’s floor category.

Nelson’s Quin Clark: eighth in male slalom, 25th in giant slalom.
Nelson’s Flynn Tracey: 19th in male slalom, 27th in giant slalom.

Nelson’s Gabriel Janz: fifth in team relay, sixth in boys sprint, 11th in pursuit.
Cross-country skiing
Nelson’s Ayla Kipkie: 10th in interval start five-km (girls 2007); 12th in individual sprint.
Figure skating
Nelson’s Aili Brackett: 15th in juvenile women.
Gymnastics
Nelson’s Macy Loutit, Jersey Skolka, Molly Anderson, Anouk Prud’homme, Analise Van Hellemond: sixth in artistic team women.
Anderson: fifth in floor.
Loutit: ninth in floor, 19th in all-around.
Prud’homme: 11th in vault, 26th in all-around.
Van Hellemond: 18th in all-around.
Snowboarding
Silverton’s Petula Perry: fifth in snowboard cross female, fifth in slopestyle.
