There will be no Hoosier-like tale for either of the Nelson area high school boys basketball teams this weekend.

The L.V. Rogers Bombers senior boys team lost 106-67 to Kelowna Christian on Wednesday afternoon to open the BC High School AA Basketball Championship in Kamloops. The loss knocks them to the west side of the bracket and eliminates them from coming home with a provincial title.

The Bombers — who claimed Kootenay championship late last month with a win against Golden — will take on Wellington from Nanaimo this afternoon. The best the Bombers can hope for now is a sixth place finish in the province.

In the BC High School A Basketball Championship at the University of Fraser Valley, the Mount Sentinel Wildcats boys squad opened the tournament with an 80-41 loss to Unity Christian of Chilliwack. Coming into the tournament ranked 13th out of 16 teams, the Wildcats will now try to come away with a better finish than their ranking.

The Wildcats will hit the court at 9 a.m. this morning to take on Glenlyon-Norfolk of Victoria. The Wildcats earned their Kootenay championship with a victory over Sparwood in the East Kootenay last month.
