Nelson athletes participate at Canada Winter Games

Nelson skier Rylie Clark and boxers Lola Brouillette and Riel Martinez competed for Team B.C. at the Canada Winter Games in Prince Edward Island.

Clark, a 15 year old who competes with Whitewater Ski Team, finished 17th in women’s ski cross and slalom, 20th in giant slalom and 26th in Super-G.

Brouillette finished fourth in the women’s 53-kilogram division. She lost a split decision to Ontario’s Ruqaya Nawaz on March 2 then lost a unanimous decision to New Brunswick’s Tessa Scott in the bronze-medal bout.

Martinez finished fifth overall in the 67-kilogram men’s division. The 17 year old lost his first bout on March 1 against Quebec’s Wail Chris Monthy in a split decision before rebounding the next day with a split-decision win against New Brunswick’s Adin Bedford.

Martinez then dropped a split-decision to Ontario’s Jackson Cook on March 3 in the consolation semifinal.
