Nelson Diamondbacks pitcher Braeden Zarikoff was solid on the mound on Monday night at Queen E in his team's 18-7 rout over Grand Forks.


The Nelson Diamondbacks earned a spot in the West Kootenay Babe Ruth semi-finals after crushing Grand Forks 18-7 at Queen Elizabeth Park on Monday night.

The Diamondbacks came out red hot in the first inning with timely hits and strong pitching by Quin Hall.

With solid production from the bottom half of the line-up, the Diamondbacks built up a lead and never looked back.

Leftie Braeden Zarikoff came in for the last four innings and was dynamite on the mound.

The win advanced the Diamondbacks to the league semi-finals which take place in Trail tonight. The Nelson squad will take on the regular season champion Trail Reds at Butler Park.

Nelson finished the Babe Ruth (ages 14-16) regular season in fourth place in the seven team league.
