Nelson Skating Club skaters recently competed at the East Kootenay Invitational competition Skate by the Lake in Invermere. There were approximately 300 skaters from B.C. and Alberta competing in categories from STAR 1 to Gold and some competitive categories.
Nelson skater Rebekah Profili earned a silver rating in three events: STAR 3 Elements, Showcase 1 and STAR 3 Free Skate, as well as winning the silver medal in STAR 4/5 Solo Dance. She was joined on the podium by Vienna Ferguson who won the bronze medal in STAR 4/5 Solo Dance, and also won the bronze medal in STAR 4 Elements.
Our competitive skaters Kailee Stewart and Aili Brackett won the silver and bronze medals, respectively, in the Juvenile under-14 category. Milo Jarvis skated an exhibition skate in the same category, skating a clean program with two landed axels and a double salchow jump.
In the adult skating categories, Jen McNutt skated an ethereal artistic program to Sally’s Song from Nightmare Before Christmas to earn a silver medal. She also won gold in the Adult Gold Free Skate category.
Nelson Skating Club is so proud of all our skaters who work very hard and displayed positive attitudes, team spirit and sportsmanship throughout the event.
The next event on the calendar will be the Kootenay Region Championships in Creston on the Family Day weekend in February. The competitive season will wrap up at the STARSkate Super Series Final in Kelowna, March 8 to 10.
