Nelson junior rowers win 7 medals at Vernon regatta

The Nelson Rowing Club’s junior athletes won seven medals at the Lap the Lake regatta in Vernon last weekend.

Mateo Bucher won gold in sprint, silver in the 3,000-metre race, and a bronze with teammate Abilash Gurung in doubles 500 sprint.

In the women’s junior races, Neve Rawson won gold in the 3,000 and silver in the sprint, as well as a bronze with Roberta Rogers in the women’s doubles sprint.

Haley Jane Closs followed Rawson in the 3,000 with a silver.

All four athletes will next take part at the B.C. Summer Games, which will be held July 21 to 24 in Prince George.

The Nelson Rowing Club has two spots available for its Junior Learn To Row program beginning July 5. The two-week program is for rowers ages 13 to 18, and runs Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays 9 to 11 a.m. To register, visit nelsonrowing.ca.
