The Nelson Leafs are on a three-game winning streak after earning two weekend victories in Spokane and Grand Forks.

Kane Kennedy scored two power-play goals as the Leafs beat the Braves 6-4 on Friday.

Spokane scored two goals in the last two minutes of the game to make it interesting for Nelson, who held on thanks in part to a 36-save performance by goalie Frederick Larochelle.

Kieran Christianson, Camron Wickham, Xaiden Bignell and Ty Nykyforuk also scored for Nelson (12-12-1).

Tie Schumacher, Robert Eloe, Josh Humphreys and Dante Hughes each scored for the Braves (5-21-1), while Zach Baumann added three assists. Goalie Jack Wood meanwhile finished with 50 saves.

The next night in Grand Forks, the Leafs scored four unanswered goals to down the Border Bruins 4-2.

Quinn Ramsay, Craw Dawson, Caden Still and Leighton Partington each had singles for the Leafs, with Jackson McLeod making 24 saves.

Ethan Shebansky made 44 saves for Grand Forks (17-9-3), with first-period goals by JP Desabrais and Chad Bates.

Nelson now heads into the holiday break, followed by a visit to the Beaver Valley Nitehawks on Dec. 29. The Leafs end 2023 with a game at home on Dec. 30 against the Castlegar Rebels followed by a New Year’s Eve matinee against Beaver Valley.
