Nelson Leafs fall 4-3 in Game 1 of Teck Cup

The Leafs lost despite outshooting Revelstoke 53-26.

The Nelson Leafs fired 53 shots but couldn’t score the equalizing goal in a 4-3 loss Friday in Revelstoke to the Grizzlies in Game 1 of the Teck Cup.

Simon Nemethy scored twice, including a goal 14 seconds into the game, while Joe Davidson also scored for the Leafs. Dylan Marshall finished with 22 saves.

Carter Bettenson, Luke Aston, Will McPhee and Brandon Kasdorf each scored for the Grizzlies. Revelstoke goaltender Brandon Weare was forced to make 50 saves after Nelson outshot the home team 17-5 in the second period and 19-4 in the third.

Game 2 is Saturday in Revelstoke, followed by Games 3 and 4 in Nelson on Monday and Tuesday.
