The Nelson Leafs are atop the Neil Murdoch Division after winning two of three games over a busy weekend.

Nelson hammered the Grand Forks Border Bruins 7-2 on Friday, shut out the Creston Valley Thunder Cats 4-0 on Saturday and fell 2-0 to the Castlegar Rebels on Sunday.

The results leave the Leafs (15-8-1) atop the division with a four-point lead on the Beaver Valley Nitehawks.

Tyler Pisiak had a hat trick as the Leafs scored seven unanswered goals against the Border Bruins in Nelson.

Seamus Boyd, Lane Goodwin, Rhett Hamilton and Liam Noble also scored for Nelson, while Tenzin Mint made 14 saves.

Hunter Wood and Davis Hunter replied late for Grand Forks (1-18-2), while Ethan Shebansky stopped 39 shots.

The next night the Leafs were on the road when goaltender Dylan Marshall stopped 23 shots to secure the shutout against Creston Valley (12-10-0).

Ryan Quast, Noble, Joe Davidson and Simon Nemethy each scored for the Leafs.

On Sunday, the Leafs’ offence finally ran out of gas.

Ethan Lawczynski made 29 saves in net for Castlegar (10-13-1), which also had two goals from Mason Hartman.

Marshall returned to the Leafs’ net and stopped 21 shots.

The Leafs play Tuesday on the road against the Beaver Valley Nitehawks before the holiday break. They return to Fruitvale for another game against the Nitehawks on Dec. 30 before hosting Beaver Valley once more on Dec. 31.
