Josh Williams was named the Nelson Leafs’ most valuable player at the team’s annual awards banquet Tuesday.
Williams led the KIJHL with a 1.86 goals-against average, a .937 save percentage among goaltenders with at least 20 appearances during the regular season. He also had a league-leading seven shutouts.
The 20 year old was also named the league’s top goaltender during the event at the Hume Hotel.
Sawyer Hunt won the Leafs’ leading scorer award with 14 goals and 40 points. Hunt is the first Leaf to score more than 50 points during a regular season since the 2013-14 campaign.
Ryan Cooper was honoured as the rookie of the year for leading the team in goals with 22 and finishing with 41 points.
Michael LeNoury was awarded the team’s best defenceman trophy, and Jack Karran was tipped as the Leafs’ top playoff performer.
Other winners included:
Logan Wullum (coaches choice, most spirited); Brendan Makay (most improved player, scholastic player of the year); Brent Headon (most popular, unsung hero); Ryan Piva (sportsmanship); and Caiden Kreitz (citizenship).
