Nelson Leafs lose playoff opener, 2-1 to Castlegar

The Nelson Leafs suffered a setback in their playoff opener.

Castlegar goaltender Ethan Lawczynski made 32 saves as the Rebels upset the Leafs 2-1 in Game 1 on Tuesday in Nelson.

Justin Duguay gave the Rebels a 1-0 lead in the second period, and Griffen Ryden scored the winner on the power play in the third.

Bryce Sookro had the Leafs‘ lone goal, while Dylan Marshall finished with 17 saves.

Nelson had entered the post-season atop the Neil Murdoch Division and 29 points clear of the fourth-place Rebels.

Game 2 is Wednesday in Nelson, followed by Games 3 and 4 in Castlegar on Friday and Saturday.
