Nelson Leafs, Nitehawks split year-ending series

The Nelson Leafs closed out 2021 by splitting a pair of games against the Beaver Valley Nitehawks.

The Leafs scored three power-play goals en route to beating the Nitehawks 5-2 in Fruitvale on Dec. 30.

Bryden Pow, Simon Nemethy, Joe Davidson, Rhett Hamilton and Bryce Sookro each scored for Nelson (17-9-1), while goaltender Dylan Marshall made 29 saves.

Owen Albers stopped 43 shots in net for Beaver Valley (14-12-1), which had goals from Hayden Stocks and Austin McLean.

The next night in Nelson, Nathan Dominici had the game-winning goal in the third period as the Nitehawks edged the Leafs 2-1.

Ethan Jang also scored for Beaver Valley, with goaltender Kevin Engman stopping 31 shots.

Pow had Nelson’s lone goal, with Marshall making 15 saves.

The Leafs next host the Castlegar Rebels on Jan. 8.
