The Nelson Leafs are one win away from the KIJHL’s Teck Cup finals.
Tyler Pisiak scored in overtime to complete his hat trick Monday as the Leafs rallied to stun the Dynamiters 4-3 in Kimberley.
The Game 5 win gives the Leafs a 3-2 series lead in the Kootenay Conference finals. They can clinch the series Tuesday night in Nelson. A Game 7, if necessary, would return to Kimberley on Wednesday.
Kimberley had a 2-0 lead before Pisiak scored shorthanded in the second period. Joe Davidson also scored for the Leafs in the third, and Pisiak’s goal at 17:42 in the third sent the game to overtime.
Leafs goaltender Dylan Marshall made 24 saves for the win, Nelson’s third in a row.
Jack Karpyshyn, Austin Daniels and Matt Saretsky scored for Kimberley, while Trystan Self stopped 34 shots.
The winner of the series will play the Revelstoke Grizzlies, who swept the Osoyoos Coyotes in the Okanagan-Shuswap Conference finals.
The Leafs haven’t been to the league championship series since 2010 when they lost in five games to Revelstoke. They last won in 2009 after sweeping the Kamloops Storm.
