Nelson Leafs open new regular season Sept. 22

The Leafs host Revelstoke Grizzlies in their first game

The Nelson Leafs will open their first Junior A season on home ice Sept. 22.

The KIJHL, which in July was promoted to Junior A status, released its regular-season schedule on Friday. The calendar sees the Leafs hosting the Revelstoke Grizzlies as the first contest in the 44-game schedule.

It will be the only home game of the month for the Leafs, who then visit the Fernie Ghostriders on Sept. 29 and the defending league champion Kimberley Dynamiters on Sept. 30.

October starts off with four straight games in Nelson, highlighted by a game against the Spokane Braves on Oct. 8. Spokane hasn’t played a KIJHL game since the 2019-2020 season was cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Nelson ends the season Feb. 17 on the road against the Beaver Valley Nitehawks.

The Leafs will play six pre-season games in September, with the first at home to the Creston Valley Thundercats on Sept. 8. After that they visit Spokane (Sept. 9), Beaver Valley (Sept. 10) and Creston (Sept. 15) before ending the pre-season back at home against Golden on Sept. 16.
