Nelson Leafs shut out Nitehawks in 2 pre-season games

The Nelson Leafs opened the KIJHL pre-season with a pair of wins against the Beaver Valley Nitehawks.

Nelson shut out the Nitehawks 2-0 on Friday in Fruitvale before winning 3-0 at home Saturday.

In the opener, veterans Kingsley Brockett and Reid Vulcano each scored for Nelson while rookie goaltender Jasper Tait made 30 saves in net.

Beaver Valley goaltender Nathan Presley allowed one goal on 22 shots, while Zachary Mussio stopped 21 shots.

The next night in Nelson, Tait earned another shut out with a 27-save performance.

Seamus Boyd and Tyson Lautard each scored in the third period with rookie Jaxson Helper adding a shot into an empty net.

Owen Albers stopped 18-of-20 shots for the Nitehawks, while Josh Hager also made 20 saves.

The Leafs next host the Creston Valley Thunder Cats on Friday before visiting Creston on Saturday. Nelson opens the regular season at home to the Princeton Posse on Sept. 23.
