Nelson minor hockey fetes its young stars

It was the first awards event in over two years

Nelson’s future hockey stars received an overdue celebration Thursday night.

The Nelson Minor Hockey Association’s year-end awards ceremony returned after a two-year pandemic absence.

The event was highlighted by a double banner unveiling for the under-18 rep team that won the West Kootenay minor hockey league title as well as the Tier 2 OMAHA tournament in the Okanagan League. The team also won bronze at provincials.

Baker St. Esso Award: Julia Malpass

Jackson Hole Three A Award: Casey Ogle (U11), Liam Malpass (U13), Marcus Dezwart (U15) and Nathan Medeiros (U18).

Sarge Sammartino Award: Cephren Scott, Nik Jmaef

Ted Hargreaves Excellence in Coaching Award: Adam Mint

Robert Jeffs Award: Dave Zarikoff

Bill McDonnell Award: Kyle Mace
