Brooke and Ashley Sonnichsen won gold for their duet routine as the Nelson Reflections Artistic Swimming Club competed at the Mable Moran Provincial Qualifiers on April 22-24.

The pair finished first in the 16-20 duet event at Port Coquitlam, the club’s first in-person competition in over two years. The event featured more than 200 athletes from across B.C.

Ashley and Brooke as well as Jessica Fitchett also took part in the BC Summer Games trials. The trio will compete at the Games in Prince George, July 21 to 24.

“We were super excited to be back in person,” says head coach Erin Fitchett. “After the two-year break we were excited for our results.”

Ashley Sonnichsen finished first in the 16-20 figures event, while Brooke followed in third along with Fitchett in 11th. Fitchett also competed in 16-20 solo, earning a fifth-place result.

Meanwhile, Elle Sherstobitoff finished atop the podium in 11-12 figures novice.

In 13-15 figures notice, Isabel Wilson finished fifth ahead of teammates Mia Schroeder (seventh), Ella Morris (10th), Sarah Sparrow (16th) and Thea Solarik (19th).

Morris, Schroeder, Sherstobitoff, Solarik, Sparrow and Wilson also competed in the 13-15 team event where they were seventh.

The entire team qualified for provincials, which will run June 3 to 5 in Kamloops.

The Nelson Reflections will also host their spring show May 15 at the Nelson and District Community Complex. The show begins at 5 p.m. Admission is $5, and children under the age of five are free. For queries, email nelsonreflections@shaw.ca.
