With only a few weeks to train on the new turf at the Nelson indoor soccer facility, teams travelled from Nelson on the Easter weekend to the Okanagan Ice Breaker tournament.

It was the first event attended by the NSA in large numbers since the COVID-19 pandemic began. In fact, this event was attended by more teams than ever before, demonstrating a pent-up demand for soccer in the Nelson community.

Ten teams travelled to Winfield on Easter weekend with boys’ teams represented by the under-11, U12, U13, U14, and U16 age brackets and girls’ teams being represented by the U12, U13, U14, U15, and U16 squads.

Despite not having access to a full-sized pitch or any outdoor training Nelson teams managed to come away with some hardware with the U15 girls winning silver and the U14 and 16 boys teams winning silver and bronze, respectively.
