Kailee Stewart won two gold medals with the Nelson Skating Club at the Kootenay Regional Competition in Creston last weekend.

Stewart took first in the open element event and Juvenile women’s freeskate as Nelson skaters competed in the first regional competition since prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The club took 11 skaters to the competition and brought back 10 medals.

Tiia Bracket was awarded silver for her performance in star 6/7 solo dance, while Aili Bracket won a silver medal for her gold artistic performance and was also awarded the overall Junior artistic award.

Taylor Singer also brought home two gold medals in the Pre-Novice women’s short and long program, and Milo Jarvis was awarded a gold medal for his first competition in pre-Juvenile men.

Jen McNutt achieved a personal best score for her skate in Adult Gold freeskate. She won a gold medal for that performance and another gold in the Adult Gold Artistic event.

Jordan Singer wrapped up her competitive skating journey with a bronze medal in Star 10 freeskate and was named the winner of the Senior overall artistic award.

Three club skaters were also named to the Kootenay Region Team for STARSkate Super Series Final. They included Aili Brackett, Kailee Stewart and Milo Jarvis (alternate).

Most importantly, everyone had fun.

Everyone will be eager to get back to training this week to get ready for Kelowna Super Series March 10 to 12. Keep an eye out for information on the Nelson Skating Club’s ice show coming up on Wednesday, April 5.
